With schools officially opening tomorrow, Tigo- Rwanda is providing scholarships to students to support education for all.

Nina-Claudia Ndabaneze, Tigo’s Marketing Manager, says that the scholarship worth Rwf 1.2 million is part of the Rwf 20 million that was cashed in for the 30 day Bonne Année promotion that attracted 377 winners countrywide targeting mainly entrepreneurship, education and improvement of social wellbeing.

"We are able to reward loyal customers with prizes that are practical and essential, bringing a positive impact on their lives,” she said.

It also carried a significant meaning in providing a way out to some of our customers who were facing the January challenge of paying schools, she said during the awarding of prizes on Friday at Tigo headquarters in Kigali.

Olive Nyirabenda a senior five student at Nyarusange, Muhanga district could not imagine that her dream for school fees could be answered through Tigo. She notes, "I was wondering how my school fees would be paid, but now I will be able to, and buy scholastic materials. The rest I will invest in a cow to sustain my source for school fees.”

Vincent Nshimiyimana, another winner, said he is venturing into phone repair to supplement his saloon business.

But Emmanuel Nshimiyimana from Kayonza said: "I used to go watch news or football at my neighbour’s place, but I am very happy that now I have my own TV set and can invite my friends over.”

Meanwhile Jolly Igoma, Advertising and Media Manager, said that Tigo is launching the Tigo cash power where every customer who will use Tigo cash to buy electricity will be given free airtime and short Message Service-SMS. The promotion that is starting this January will last for only one month.
