NATIONAL women football league champions AS Kigali have lined up friendlies against arch-rivals APR and Bugesera ahead of the new season.

Grace Nyinawumuntu, the Kigali city council side coach, will use the two matches to assess her team.

"APR and Bugesera will be our biggest challengers this season so it’s important to gauge ourselves against them,” she said.

Nine clubs including APR, Inyemera, Remera, Rubavu, Musanze, reigning champions AS Kigali, Bugesera, Les Lionness and the National University of Rwanda (NUR), are expected to take part in the six-month league.

Since its inception in 2008, AS Kigali has claimed three titles with APR lifting one.
