AS the Peace Cup kicks off this afternoon, teams remain in the dark about this year’s prize money after talks stalled between the local football governing body (Ferwafa) and perennial sponsors MTN Rwanda.
According to Ferwafa’s Chief Executive Officer Michel Gasigwa, the two parties will meet again next week to try and seal a deal.
"We did not want to delay the tournament because of the on-going sponsorship talks but we are hopeful that we shall reach an agreement.”
Last year, the telecommunication giants slashed their sponsorship from Rwf50m to Rwf25m, something Gasigwa attributes to poor working relations between Ferwafa’s previous administration and the mobile operator.
"We expect a substantial offer this time round. I have reliably learnt that there was a poor working relationship between the previous administration and MTN which eventually trickled down to a small sponsorship package,” the former referee said.
APR claimed last year’s Peace Cup title after beating Police 4-2 in the final.
