The center-back, who endured a testing six-month spell on the sidelines after injuring his right knee during the 2011 Fifa U-17 World Cup in Mexico, is back in full training and Isonga Coach Richard Tardy yesterday confirmed to Times Sport that the defender would play a part in Sunday’s game.
"Since his return, he (Usengimana) has looked very sharp in training and will play on Sunday,” Tardy said.
Marcel Nzarora, who was the Junior Wasps’ first choice goalkeeper in Mexico, is also expected to return to the side.
Isonga are looking to build on Wednesday’s Primus League victory over Nyanza. After managing a solitary point in their opening three matches, the youthful side finally ended their winless run with a 1-0 victory, courtesy of a second half goal from Isaac Muganza.
This year’s Peace Cup competition kicks off tomorrow with a clash between Stella Maris and Interforce.
On Sunday, six-time champions APR entertain Isonga at Kigali Regional Stadium; Police host Espoir while Rayon Sports play away to Musanze.
Out of 32 teams, 16 will progress to the second round slated for February 1.
APR lifted last year’s trophy after beating Police 4-2 in the final.
