On Tuesday, this week, two people died and 16 others sustained injuries in a grenade attack in Marembo Village, Nyabisindu Cell in Remera, Gasabo District.
Although investigations are still ongoing, it is obvious that whoever is responsible is simply an agent of terrorism.
It was not the first incident of its kind in Kigali in the recent past, with several suspects on trial, in the High Court, for a series of grenade attacks that hit the country in 2010.
Some of the suspects pleaded guilty, and confessed links with the DR Congo-based Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) terrorists, who are alleged to have killed at least 39 civilians in South Kivu since the year begun.
Terrorism is an international crime and, therefore, should be fought by everyone. Thousands of innocent lives worldwide have perished through the various barbaric acts of terrorists. In Rwanda, such incidents are designed to undermine the country’s reputation as one of the safest in the world as well as instill fear.
Although security organs have done a great job in preventing such crimes, it is important that the public remains vigilant and report to relevant authorities, any suspicious persons or objects.
Everybody needs to stand up against such inhuman actions. There are various community policing channels through which information can be forwarded and shared.
There is no doubt that, with concerted efforts, those responsible will be brought to book.
