Long time ago there lived a man called Goliath and little David. Goliath was a nine-foot-tall champion soldier from Gath and said that he could beat any Israelite soldier who would fight him.

He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armour of bronze. His spear was like a weaver’s rod with an iron point. This made all the Israelite soldiers to be afraid to fight him.

David was a shepherd and young boy who believed in God. He stood out and shouted to fellow Israelites, "Why do you come out and face the battle? Aren’t you servants of Saul?" he therefore asked for a man to come down and fight him, if he wins, Israelites would serve Philistines, but if he was won, they would serve Israelites.

Before he confronted the battle with Goliath, he said, "The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." David took his sling and five smooth stones from the brook.

Then he went to fight Goliath. King Saul wanted to put his heavy armor and helmet on David. He also tried to give David a big sword, but David said he could not wear them. He knew that his strength and protection came from God.

Goliath under looked, looked angrily and cursed the boy coming out to fight him. David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin; but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. All those gathered here will know it is not by sword or spare that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord."

David ran quickly towards the battle line to meet Goliath. Reached into his bag and took out a stone, he slung it and threw it at Goliath. It hit Goliath in the forehead and the giant fell face down on the ground.

Without a sword in his hand he struck down the giant and killed him. So David ran and stood over him. He took hold of his own sword to kill him and drew it away and when the Philistines saw that happen, they turned and ran. Therefore, David believed in God, and God helped him win over the giant. As children what do we learn from little David’s story? David trusted God to help him even though the giant was much stronger than him.

Dear children do you have any problem in your life? Is there something burdening you? Ask God for help and trust in him, he is able to deliver you from your enemies.
