On April 11th, Albert Dusabe, a suspect in the murder of Dr. Charles Karoro Muhirwe, a lecturer at the University of Rwanda, Nyagatare Campus, was shot and killed by security forces in Muhanga District.
His death was confirmed to The New Times, by Rwanda National Police (RNP) spokesperson John Bosco Kabera, who said that "the suspect was shot for trying to fight the police.”
Dusabe had been arrested in connection with the murder and had confessed during investigations that he had killed Muhirwe after being hired for the hit job for a sum of Rwf300,000 of which he received Rwf70,000 advance payment.
He revealed that he was hired by a local businessman called Lambert Minani who had a grudge against Muhirwe over a tender to supply pharmaceutical equipment. The details surrounding the nature of the tender were not clear at the time of publication.
The case involved three individuals, who were all arrested, including Minani who allegedly paid for the murder, Dusabe, and another suspect who is believed to be Dusabe's older brother.
Dusabe turned violent when he was being taken to the crime scene where he had allegedly committed the murder to show authorities the weapon he used, but he resisted and got into a physical altercation with a policeman, resulting in his fatal shooting.
The weapon was taken to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) station for further examination, while Dusabe's body was taken to Kabgayi Hospital for an autopsy.
