Sport Club Kiyovu head coach Jean Baptist Kayiranga doesn’t believe his team is good enough to compete successfully on the continent.
Kayiranga’s honest assessment of his team comes as Kiyovu are preparing for next month’s Orange Confederation Cup preliminary round encounter with Tanzanian giants Simba.
Speaking to Times Sports last week, the former Rayon Sports and AS Kigali coach admitted that he doesn’t have a big enough squad and good enough team to compete at the big stage, at least for now.
"If am to be honest, I don’t think we will go far in this competition. Don’t get me wrong, but I know my team very well. We have a very small squad and most of the players are still young and don’t have any experience of playing in big competitions,” he confessed.
The club last played in African competition in 2004 and it was the Confederation Cup.
Asked about his Tanzanian opponents, Kayiranga acknowledged, "What I know is that Simba is big team and the best in the Tanzanian league.”
