MUHANGA – The forum for Christian Youth Students (JEC) has called on its members to be innovative and skilful so as to graduate with skills to create their own jobs.

The appeal was made by Lambert Niyonshuti, the chairman of JEC, at the closure of a four-day training programme in job creation held in Muhanga District, yesterday.

Niyonshuti said that the objective of such training is to have a proactive youth community in Rwanda, which contributes actively to the development of the community.

"We would like to empower the youth to use their skills as a source of livelihood. With such skills, they can afford a living during and after school life, without looking for jobs.”

Niyonshuti said the training was partly motivated by the recommendations that came out of last year’s ninth annual National Dialogue (Umushyikirano).

Over 150 youth, countrywide, trained in project planning and management, among other skills . One of the participants, Dieudonné Muhirwe, said: "such training opportunities helpful to the youth because they empower them with skills on how they can be creative and put to good use their natural talents.”

An official from the National Youth Council, Donath Nishyirembere, said such training programmes would enable the youth to spearhead the development of their respective communities.

JEC was founded in 1958 and has more than 15,000 members in secondary and tertiary institutions countrywide.
