AND finally the long-awaited hotel star ratings came to pass. Kigali Serena Hotel and Nyungwe Forest Lodge were certified as Five Star. They deserve a pat on the back for achieving this much coveted feat.

The rating is a certification of the quality of facilities and services provided at the hospitality facilities that were rated. As Rwanda aspires to become a high-end tourist hub, the rating could not have come at a better time. According to the rankings, four hotels are 4-star ranking, while several others occupy lower categories.

The rating should only add to the charm and ambience that these facilities provide. The hotel sector is surely on the move, and the entry of Marriot Hotels in the Rwanda means that another five-star hotel is on the horizon.

The challenge for other hotels to raise the bar in service delivery and aim to upgrade to a higher status.
