Recently, I went to Nyagatare to visit relatives and was pleasantly surprised at how the district is buzzing with rice farming. An uncle told me that he and his friends used to wake up and have nothing to do, but now, they are making money, working in the rice fields.

It is refreshing to learn that the government is taking practical steps to ensure that Rwanda is self-reliant in food production. The large scale rice growing schemes will go a long way in not only ensuring food security, but also having surplus for export. I encourage farmers work towards increasing production in the New Year.
