The National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC) Thursday released findings of a study entitled "What causes violence after 1994 Genocide?”

The Research which was carried out in four provinces, aimed to explain the current increase of violence in the country.

It revealed that the most victims of the violence in Rwanda are Genocide survivors.
In his remarks at Serena Hotel, the President of the NURC, Dr. Jean Baptiste Habyarimana, said the research was prompted by the many problems the commission has been undergoing in its reconciliation campaign. 

According to the research, one cause of continued violence is the culture of impunity. Other causes named are genocide ideology, problems arising from the Gacaca courts and issues related to land titles in Rwanda.

The research cited different measures that will help in abolishing violence among Rwandans. Anti-genocide ideology will be taught in primary and secondary schools and at universities.

Solidarity campaigns to be launched across the country are intended to reconcile Rwandans. Members of all social groups will be taught about peace and tolerance.
