NYAGATARE-A man and a woman are in Police custody in Nyagatare District for allegedly committing homicide in different areas.
According to Police in the district, the first suspect, Joseline Mukandayisenga was arrested after allegedly killing a two-year-old child in Nkoma cell, Tabagwe Sector. While Daniel Baziga, is suspected of killing a 45-year-old woman in Gikundamvura Cell in Karama Sector.
"The female suspect killed the child by poisoning. She admitted the crime saying that she was revenging against her husband for bringing in another wife,” a Police official told The New Times.
Speaking from Gatunda Police post on Monday, the suspect accused her husband, Jean de la Paix Manirakiza, of dumping her for another woman.
"He had been taking care of the second wife and ignored me. I decided to kill their child so that they could split,” she said.
Local residents said that the two had not formalised their marriage.
"They were cohabiting. She deserves severe punishment for killing an innocent child,” said one neighbour.
