AS Christians wait to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ tomorrow, local football lovers will be treated to early cheers this afternoon at Amahoro national stadium as Primus league champion APR lock horns with a Europe-based select XI made up of Rwandan players.

The military side will be using this match as part of its preparation ahead of next year’s Orange Champions league where they will face Kenya’s Tusker in the preliminary round.

According to Dutch coach Ernie Brandts, he will use the game to weigh his side which has recruited massively for continental assignments.

This season, APR recruited players like Dan Wagaluka, Olivier Karekezi, Habib Kavuma, Seleman Ndikumana, Papy Fatty, Ali Mbogo, Alex de Avila Peixoto, Douglas Lopes Carneiro, Oliveiro Alves and Preux Leonel.

Despite huge investment, the club is currently placed in fourth position in Primus Football League, 3 points adrift of Mukura who have played a game more in seven matches played so far.

Desire Mbonabucya, who will be managing the professional team, today, said, "We will be assessing every player to see who can make it to the national team. So these two matches will play a vital role in identifying what qualities each player possesses.

The players were selected by the former Amavubi skipper and now a Fifa agent Mbonabucya last month.
