It has been said time and again that we are what eat, and Christmas Day is no exception for us to eat unhealthy foods.

Below, I have prepared three healthy menus for Christmas Day starting from breakfast to dinner;

Breakfast

For anyone who cares to have English breakfast; tea, whole wheat bread, butter, eggs, cake, bacons or sausages, fresh juice and fresh fruits, all these foods make up for that healthy plate of English breakfast.

Traditional breakfast calls for porridge, boiled cassava, tea, boiled arrow roots, boiled pumpkin, fresh fruits and fresh juice can do for a simple but healthy breakfast on this Christmas morning.

Christmas Lunch

Many of us have copied the western style of preparing Christmas lunch. One of the interesting recipes for lunch that is my favourite during Christmas is that made up of stuffed turkey, vegetable rice, mashed potatoes or baked potatoes, salad and beans/peas. The other favourite food that cannot miss my table on this day is Pilau; Christmas is not Christmas for my family if Pilau does not make it to our lunch table; this is influenced by the fact that we lived in a coastal town for over thirty years, so Pilau was an everyday food for the coastal people. For the drinks, freshly squeezed juice and maybe a glass of wine can do the trick for a perfect Christmas luncheon.

Christmas dinner

Many homes receive guests during lunch hours, so dinner time is mostly about family members. Depending on how heavy the lunch is, for most people, sandwich made out of the left overs during lunch hours can do.

Christmas cake

Eating lots of cake is not healthy, but Christmas is not complete without a cake for the children. To make sure that the children eat their food, the cake should be eaten later as a dessert.

Christmas time is when we celebrate the birth of our saviour Jesus Christ. If we reflect on the true meaning of this day, then we will be able to know what God is trying to tell us. He shared with us his only begotten son and sent him down for our sake to die for our sins, so that we should not get lost but be born into eternal life; if you have the chance to share with your neighbours or the less fortunate members of our society, please, do and experience the joy of giving which is greater than that of receiving. Merry Christmas!
