Early this year, Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (RURA) announced that mobile phone subscribers will be required to register their details with operators or risk having their Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards deactivated. This is seen as a move to curb crime.

The scheme was adopted in some of the East African countries. Cell phones can be used to facilitate vaious criminal acts and the suspects get away as tracing them is no easy task. However, with simcard registration, each user will be accountable for the calls made or used with their number.

This is therefore an appeal to RURA to speed up the process to cushion unsuspecting subscribers from some of the ills that may be prevalent in other countries.
