The introduction of Umurenge Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) was a noble idea and evidence on the ground shows that it has indeed helped in alleviating poverty among many rural residents.

There is clear evidence of transformation of people’s lives in several districts. For instance, the programme has among other things boosted rural savings and enabled the rural poor to acquire loans.

I wish our government launches more initiatives aimed at increasing access to financial services for enhance a better life among all Rwandans.
