GOR Mahia has joined the race to sign Amavubi striker Meddie Kagere ahead of next year’s Orange Confederation Cup.

The Kenyan club’s Secretary General George Bwana told Times Sportyesterday that the Police striker would strengthen the side’s attack.

Kagere made a name for himself after topping the scoring charts at the just ended Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup in Dar-es-salaam with five goals.

"We want Kagere. We have started talks with Police and believe we have a good chance because he (Kagere) is interested in the move,” he said.

On top of Kagere, Mahia are also chasing the signatures of Congo United captain Rama Salim as well as Harambee Stars’ Victor Ochieng.

Mahia will open their Confederation Cup campaign against Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique.

Kenyan champions Tusker FC, who are scheduled to play APR in the preliminary round of the Orange Champions League, are also said to be interested in the player, who topped last season (Primus League)’s scoring charts with 16 goals.

Other clubs linked to Kagere include Simba, Yanga and Azam.
