AMAVUBI’s gilded midfielder Andrew Buteera faces a long spell on the sidelines after scans revealed his injured knee requires surgery.
The 17-year-old hobbled out of Saturday’s Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup final against Uganda after suffering a lateral meniscus partial tie in his right knee and Amavubi’s physio Moussa Hakizimana fears the player may be out for a while.
"It’s a serious injury which requires surgery,” Hakizimana said.
The injury means Buteera is likely to sit out Rwanda’s 2013 Africa Nations Cup first leg qualifier against Nigeria. The match, which will be played in Kigali, is slated for February 29.
Meanwhile, SEC Academy’s Ibrahim Itangishyaka is set to undergo trials in France later this month.
Itangishyaka was part of Rwanda’s squad which took part in the 2011 Fifa U-17 World Cup in Mexico.
