All national leaders will, today, convene for the ninth edition of the National Dialogue known as Umushyikirano,

The two-day event that is broadcast live on radio and TV as well as online, provides a highly interactive session where the leaders evaluate the various programmes and set targets for the following year.

The forum has, over the years, gained popularity, where Rwandans, in the country and abroad get to participate, thereby playing an active role in the affairs of the country.

As evidenced in previous sessions, solutions to various challenges affecting the lives of the people have been sought – on the spot – as the country’s leadership and the people get to discuss issues openly.

Examples of these include, irregularities in government programmes such as the one cow per family initiative (Gir’Inka) and the campaign to eliminate thatched houses (Nyakatsi). 

For the Gir’Inka programme, it was through the Dialogue that cases of unfair selection of beneficiaries came to light and it was agreed that a countrywide evaluation of the programme be conducted to ensure that the cows go to deserving people.

Once this was done, the programme picked up again and reports of how it has changed people’s lives are numerous.

Similarly, the anti-thatched housing campaign was dented by some leaders who irrationally carried out the implementation, however, after resolutions from last
year’s dialogue, the number of Rwandans living in indecent housing has remarkably gone down and the thatched roofing will soon be no more.

All Rwandans should, therefore, participate in this crucial forum, the demonstrated the level of accountability and transparency that the leadership has put in place.
