APR Fc’s head coach Ernie Brandts believe that enough preparations will be vital for his team to eliminate Kenya’s Tusker in the preliminary round of the Caf Orange Champions League.

According to Brandts, APR was given a fair draw against Kenyan champion. The Dutch man told Times Sport yesterday: "Playing Tusker will not be an easy contest but we have to be 100% focused to get a good result in Nairobi.”

He however, admitted, "Tusker has tall and physical players but we will be ready for whatever they throw at us. We’ll look at every detail from their previous matches as we prepare ourselves for what will be a tough encounter.”

Brandts has given his players, most of whom have been on duty with the Amavubi Stars at the just concluded Cecafa Challenge Cup in Tanzania, a one week  rest.

High targets

The Dutch man noted that APR’s target is to reach as far as possible in the competition and possibly go all the way to the title. He said: "We want the title and we are going to work hard to achieve this target.”

Last year, the 12-time national champions were sent packing in the first round by Tunisia’s Club Africain, 6-2 on aggregate. The military side managed a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Kigali but things went pie-shaped in the return leg, losing 4-0 in Tunis.

The winner of the APR vs Tusker match will face reigning African champions ESS of Tunisia in the next round.

Meanwhile, another Rwandan side, SC Kiyovu, has been given a tough draw in the Confederation Cup, as they have been paired against Simba of Tanzania.

Kiyovu will start their campaign at home before heading to Dar es Salaam for the return leg. The winner will proceed to the next round where they will face Algeria’s Es Setif.
