MUHANGA- The staff of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB-Rwanda), over the weekend, donated roofing material to families of landslide victims in Mushishiro Sector, Muhanga District.
MUHANGA- The staff of Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB-Rwanda), over the weekend, donated roofing material to families of landslide victims in Mushishiro Sector, Muhanga District.
The donation of 1,000 iron sheets worth Rwf6million was handed over by Gloria Nyambok, the KCB acting Managing Director, who was accompanied by KCB staff members from Muhanga, Butare and Kigali branches.
The team also joined by Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) and residents in community work outreach (umuganda) to clear ground for the construction of 10 houses for the displaced families.
Nyambok explained that the support is part of the banks’ commitment to give back to the community through the KCB foundation charity programmes.
"This is part of our tradition corporate social responsibility for humanitarian intervention. We believe in giving back to the community in which we operate because they give us business,” Nyambok said.
She disclosed that Rwf47million was, this year, used in the charity programme, adding that next year’s budget that targets the areas of health, education, entrepreneurship, environment and humanitarian intervention is set to increase.
The sector leader, Sixte Mungarakarama, hailed KCB for the support noting that the donation would complement local government efforts to uplift the lives of the beneficiaries.
One of the beneficiaries, Onesphore Uwihoreye, who lost three children to the recent mudslides, said the support would facilitate him to start a new life.
"I appreciate the support and I look forward to live with hope and make a living after the horrible moments that befell my family,” Uwihoreye said.
Mushishiro community members also promised to extended further support to victims and contribute to the construction of the houses within the next few months.
