The pioneer savings and credit scheme in Ndaro Sector, Ngororero District, Jyambere SACCO, has received an operating licence from the National Bank of Rwanda.

The Sacco manager, Viviane Mukamugema, is optimistic that with the licence, their activities would bolster the savings culture in the area.

"The scheme will focus on boosting agricultural activities, business, educational programmes and increase access to loans,” Mukamugema said.

She was speaking Wednesday at a function to celebrate the Sacco’s feat as the first of 13 in Ndaro Sector to obtain a licence from the Central Bank.

Residents interviewed by The New Times reiterated that the licence guarantees security for their money.

"This is an assurance of security for our money and my vision is to get a bigger loan since I have repaid the previous Rwf300,000, which has so far played a huge role towards improving my welfare,” said an elated Bavakure Matayo.

The chairman of Jyambere Sacco, Onesphore Nzapfakumunsi, said their plan was to construct their own premises.

"We already have a master plan for the new premises and by next year, we shall be moving out of the rented premises,” Nzapfakumunsi highlighted.

Local leaders advised residents to cultivate a culture of saving, and educate others on planning for the future.

Jyambere Sacco has over 2,800 clients who have so far amassed over Rwf 75 million and issued over Rwf 16million in credit.
