She made the remarks during a tour of various development projects in Nyagatare District.
Accompanied by top provincial officials, the Governor visited a $10million granite factory in Rutaraka Cell, Nyagatare Sector the new Inventory Credit system, commonly known by its French moniker ‘warrantage’, operated by maize farmers under the Nyagatare Maize Investment Group (NAYMIG).
The Inventory Credit system is a new programme that facilitates farmers to use their harvest as collateral to access credit. The harvest is stockpiled in a warehouse until loans are fully serviced.
The new programme is financed by Research into Use (RIU) and operated by Rwanda Development Organisation (RDO) in conjunction with Duterimbere, a micro-finance institution.
Speaking after the tour, Uwamariya commended farmers for enhancing the agricultural sector.
"This is part of my tour of the whole province. I am impressed by your hard work towards developing the district. This should not stop here…collective efforts are needed to further develop the province,” she said.
At Nyagatare Hospital, the Governor appealed to the management and staff to offer better services to the local population.
Later, she met local leaders and opinion leaders to discuss a wide range of developmental issues.
Nyagatare mayor, Fred Atuhe Sabitti, assured the governor of local leaders’ commitment to spur the development in the area.
