Rwanda is set to launch an Area Control Centre at Kanombe International Airport in response to the growing air traffic, a senior aviation official said. According to Richard Masozera, the Director General of Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA), the ACC was installed along with a new modern radar system to boost air traffic control operations.

According to Richard Masozera, the Director General of Rwanda Civil Aviation Authority (RCAA), the ACC was installed along with a new modern radar system to boost air traffic control operations.
"The system is a modern approach to air traffic control where there is growth in air traffic movements,” he said.
The centre is expected to improve security and safety.
Masozera added that the system had successfully been tested.
"About 40 people will be trained in area control services before it’s officially launched,” he said.
"There is a challenge for personnel to operate the centre because the old radar has not been used for air traffic but only for surveillance,” Masozera said.
Ten people are being trained in Nairobi, Kenya and another five in South Africa.
With in the multimillion Euro centre, will be the simulator where people will be trained in a move that is expected to cut costs spent in training them outside Rwanda.
"It is expected to reduce costs because the standard price in the regional centres is US$40,000 per person while in Europe its goes to Euro50, 000,” he said.
"The industry is growing at a high rate; we need to train people to keep up with growth.”
Rwanda has this year attracted more airlines into the market.
