NYARUGURU- As a way of creating awareness on their activities, a number of development stakeholders in Nyaruguru District are holding a two-day public exhibition.

The exhibition and Accountability Day, which went underway on Tuesday, attracted 35 NGOs, local businesses and cooperatives operating in the district.

The event was organised by district authorities in partnership with the civil society and the private sector.

The exhibition which is supported by the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), is aimed at promoting the culture of accountability between the district, its partners and residents.

Similar events have taken place in other districts in the country.

According to the Mayor, Francois Habitegeko, it was an occasion for the local community to know what activities NGOs operating in the district are involved in.

"This is an occasion to know who is working properly and who is not. It is also an opportunity for residents to be made aware of the various programs they can benefit from and give their feedback on how we can improve the services we offer,” Habitegeko observed.

Innocent Nizeyimana, a representative of the District Joint Action Forum (JAF), which brings together all the  stakeholders in the district, noted that such an event is an occasion for them to reach to the community they serve.

"It also serves as a way of showing the population areas they can invest in, depending on their interests. We give them information on what we do, they get in contact with investors and potential partners and we offer advice how to develop and implement development projects,” Nizeyimana said.
