AMAVUBI’s defense will have to find a way to stop Sudan’s lethal attack when the two sides face-off this afternoon in the first of two semi-finals of the 2011 Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup.
The desert hawks stormed the last four after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Burundi and will fancy their chances against Milutin Micho’s side, which had to dig deep before seeing off a fighting Zanzibar side (2-1).
Micho, who is well versed with Sudanese football after guiding Al-Hilal to the semi-finals of this year’s Orange Champions League, warned his players to be more vigilant on set pieces.
"I don’t think we have dealt well with set-pieces and for all I know, Sudan are very good in that area and will punish you if you give them a chance,” the Serbian warned.
Andrew Buteera is likely to miss the encounter after injuring his hip during the Zanzibar game but Micho is willing to give the midfielder every opportunity to get involved.
"He has been phenomenon for us and I will give him every chance possible to play a role in the game,” he said.
On the other hand, Sudan coach Mubarak Suliman will make one change from the side that knocked out Burundi.
Bashir Ahmed Mohammed comes in for the suspended Abdallah Nagmeldin.
"Rwanda has been one of the better sides so far and will be tough test for us,” the Sudanese coach conceded.
The last time the sides met was in 2007, with Sudan emerging victors on penalties (5-4) after a 2-all draw at the end of normal time.
The second semi-final pits the defending champions Tanzania against Uganda. Tanzania, who will bank on home support qualified after beating Malawi 1-0 while the Uganda Cranes, who are chasing for a record 12th title edged Zimbabwe.
