GATSIBO — Farmers in Gatsibo district registered a tremendous increase in maize and sorghum production last season.

Philbert Bugambo, an official of ZIGAMA Co-operative, that is responsible for marketing of farmers’ produce in the district, told The New Times on Monday that last season yields were high compared to the previous ones.

"There has been a remarkable increment in the amount of maize and sorghum this season compared to the previous seasons, and this can be seen from the amounts stored here [in stores]," Bugambo said.

A kilogram of maize is currently being bought at Frw120 because of the abundant maize in the district, down from Frw150 at which they bought the previous season.

According to Bugambo they have a capacity to store 350 tones of maize and 380 tones of sorghum.
