Men should espouse family planning methods and avoid leaving the responsibility to their spouses.

The call was made by various health officials at the launch of a family planning campaign in Gitoki Sector, Gatsibo District.

Gitoki was selected for the launch of the campaign dubbed: "Family planning; everyone’s responsibility including men”, as it ranks the lowest in responding to family planning initiatives in the district.

The head of Kiziguro Hospital, Dr. Diocress Mukama, noted that there was need for robust family planning initiatives to check the rapid population growth.

"Statistics show a high population growth, and family planning is the main solution to this, Mukama disclosed, noting that; "everyone, including men should play a role in ensuring family planning”.

Gatsibo District Health Officer, John Bosco Uwizeyimana reminded residents that family planning services are available to adults, including single mothers who are sexually active. 

A resident, Jean Claude Habarurema, commended the government’s family planning initiatives noting that they have had a positive impact.

"My wife and I adopted family planning services three years ago, and this has impacted our welfare in terms of ensuring education for our children, eating a balanced diet and access to affordable health insurance cover,” he said.
