One hundred female students who excelled in their ‘O’ and ‘A’ level national examinations, over the weekend, participated in a workshop in Musanze District to help them work towards realising their dreams.

The workshop was organised by Imbuto Foundation through the ir Youth empowerment programme.

Nina Shalita, the Deputy Director General, Imbuto Foundation, explained that the training under the theme: "Dream Big and Act” will help the young girls to set their goals, build confidence and guide them on making informed decisions.

"The relevance of this initiative is to empower Rwandan young women.  Their early age motivates them to excel and effectively participate in the country’s’ development,’’ Shalita said.

Participants were briefed on values, making choices, self empowerment and social responsibility.

Various participants testified about their progress since they were rewarded. There was also a debate on how to build on that recognition and help them to be role models in their communities.

Marie Solange Tumusange, a senior five student at Notre Dames de Citeaux said her determination and vision drives her to excel.

"When I was awarded by Imbuto Foundation, I realised that I can perform better, I feel appreciated and I no longer feel shy. My secret is to be determined and work on time.’’

In 2005, Imbuto Foundation initiated a campaign to promote girl’s education by rewarding the best performing girls in Primary Six, O’ and A’ levels with the aim of encouraging retention and high performance among female students.
