The days of Kigali City Council (KCC) struggling to get office space are approaching their end as its proposed new headquarters; "Kigali City Hall”, enters the final stages of construction.
This was noted by city Mayor, Fidel Ndayisaba, while launching the final phase of constructing the six-storey structure located near the current offices of KCC, in Nyarugenge District.
Nyarugenge District headquarters will also be housed in the 8.8 billion franc building.
"The contractor is building at a good pace as we had agreed. The sooner the completion, the sooner the opportunity to solve problems we currently face like lack of enough office space; we have several offices in scattered locations, like the Health and Environment department in Kiyovu, Urban Planning in Nyarugenge…,” Ndayisaba said.
He noted that shifting to the new location will also enable the city to implement its plan of releasing all plots to investors to develop them, building structures that match the city master plan. Investors have already shown interest in pieces of land that currently house both KCC and Nyarugenge District.
The Mayor also revealed that construction of modern buildings in the city was going on smoothly and that very soon KCC would have a new look.
