African Nations Championship

April 15

Second leg

Burundi v Rwanda

Caf has postponed Rwanda’s African Nations Championship second leg tie against Burundi until after the mourning period.

Initially, the return leg was supposed to be played on the weekend of April 11-13 but the continental body pushed forward by two days on Rwanda’s request.

That game will now be played on April 15, a day after the end of the national mourning week for the victims of the 1994 genocide, which starts on April 7 to 14. "Caf responded positively to our concern after Burundi allowed postponing the game so as to honor the 1994 Genocide victims," Ferwafa CEO Jules Kalisa confirmed yesterday.

Rwanda won the first leg 1-0 courtesy of Abedi Mulenda’s strike and will only need to avoid defeat in Bujumbura to progress to the first round where they will meet Sudan.

However, this will not stop other fixtures from taking their course on the expected date.

In the East-Central zone, Uganda Cranes are to host Eritrea’s Red Sea at Namboole stadium after a 2-all draw in Asmara over the weekend while Tanzanian hosts Kenya in Dar es Salaam. Kenya won the first leg 1-0 in Nairobi.

This new championship was inaugurated last September by Caf with the aim of providing home-grown talents more exposure on the international scene as well as promoting and developing football in Africa.
