MUSANZE- The office of the Ombudsman, yesterday, issued cash prizes to winners of the Eastern Provincial Anti-Corruption Music and Poetry Competition held in Musanze District.

Twenty participants, including individuals and groups participated in the competition.

In the music category, Urunana Troupe from Rulindo District, emerged the best and received a cash award of Rwf300,000, while Urugero Rw’abato and Nice Day  from Gicumbi District, were second and third and won cash prizes of Rwf250,000, and 200,000, respectively.

According to Jean Pauline Gashumba from the Office of the Ombudsman, the competition was organised to rally people behind the country’s crusade against corruption, injustice as well as promotion of good governance.

In the poems category, the winner, Violate Uwamariya from Gakenke District received a case prize of Rwf200,000, followed by Abaharanira ukuri group from Burera District, who received Rwf150,000, while the second runners-up, Cyriaque Nsengimana was awarded Rwf100,000.

"We encouraged the youth to participate. Residents can easily take lessons on corruption and know their rights as the message sinks faster in people’s minds through drama,’’ Gashumba said.  

Winners in each of the two categories will participate in the national music competition to be held in Kigali as part of the national anti corruption week which starts on December 5.

This year’s theme is ‘Promote Integrity, Fight Corruption.’
