BURUNDI is through to the quarter-finals of the Cecafa Tusker Challenge Cup after yesterday’s thrilling 1-0 win over Uganda in Dar es Salaam.

Rayon Sport’s creative midfielder Cedric Amissi scored the only goal of the game on the 38th minute from a clever chip which beat goal keeper Robert Odongokara.

Burundi dominated the game thanks to a congested midfield manned by Faty Papy, Didier Kavumbagu, Pierre Kwizera and Fuadi Ndayisenga.

Substitute Said Selemani missed three clear-cut chances while Papy’s last-minute strike was saved by Odongokara.

Uganda who are chasing for a record 12th title, had chance to equalize and even win it but Mike Sserumaga and Emmanuel Okwi’s efforts were kept out by Burundi goal keeper Vladimir Niyonkuru.

The result took Burundi atop Group B with seven points while Uganda, who were already through to the last eight, dropped to second place with six points.

Despite Zanzibar’s 3-0 win over Somalia earlier in the day, both sides were sent packing.
