…as 2010 Salax Award winner set for debut album launch

The festive season is just around the corner. Among the major highlights of the season will be two mega-concerts that will feature the 2010 Salax Award winner Knowles in the launch of her debut album "Komeza”.

In a bid to help Rwandans windup the year in style and promote local artistes, Showtime Events in partnership with Banque Populaire du Rwanda (BPR) organised two mega-concerts: "The Mutzig Jungle Party” and "Simbuka na Bank Populaire X-mas fete”.

"Our main objective is to brand Rwanda through music and to promote our artistes by organising big concerts to give them an opportunity to share the stage with international artistes,” Mcdavis Genza, the Chief Executive Officer of Showtime Events told the press.

He added: "we decided to support Knowles to launch her album in a big way, because she is a young and talented musician – next time it will be another artiste”.

"I’m so grateful for the support and I’ll use the opportunity to get ideas from the stars. I also promise my fans great performances,” Knowles said.

The concerts planned for December 17 –18, will be held at L.Kivu Serena Hotel in the Western Province and at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali. The two gigs will take place under the auspices of Serena Hotels, Bralirwa (Mutzig brand), RwandAir and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, among others.

Nigerian duet The Brackets famous for their "Yori Yori” track, Uganda’s music solo artistes Jackie Chandiru and Vamposs will perform. Others will be Madtraxx and DJ Styles, both from Kenya.

Local artistes Riderman, Makanyaga, Kitoko, Urban Boys, Kamichi and Jay Polly will also grace the stage.

Showtimes Events, the leading events company in Rwanda has been organising concerts for the past five years. This year, it brings an exciting array of fun and merrymaking to help people end the year in style.

"Together with our partners, Showtime Events presents the biggest event of the year that will see local artiste Knowles launch her maiden album Komeza, alongside some of Africa’s finest musicians and our own,” Mcdavis said.

"We’ve given a twist to this year’s event making it a two-in-one event. On Dec 17, all the roads will lead to L.Kivu Serena Hotel for "The Mutzig Jungle Party” and Dec 18 at Amahoro Stadium for "Simbuka na Bank Populaire X-Mas Fete,” he added.

The concert at L.Kivu Serena Hotel kicks off at 6pm till dawn, with the entrance fee ranging from Rwf10.000 and Rwf20.000 (for the VIP), whereas at the Amahoro Stadium, gates open at 1:30 pm till 10pm for the "Simbuka na Bank Populaire X-Mas Fete”.

Speaking at the press conference, Richard Ndahiro from BPR said that, Knowles’ fans will enjoy discounted tickets if they are registered with the BPR Mobile Banking facility.

The tickets will go for Rwf2, 000 (ordinary seats) and Rwf5, 000 (VIP section). However, rates would be discounted for Rwf1, 500 and Rwf4000, respectively, if one buys a ticket using a phone through Bank Populiare Mobile Banking.

People can access the tickets in the various BPR branches in Kigali starting from December 10.

"We expect the best from every artiste and also from the management point of view, we have a very competent team that has enough experience to bring this event to a reality and make our artistes proud and our partners,” Remmygious Lubega, the director of Creative and Business noted.

He added that: "We therefore wish to send the message out there for all Rwandans to get their dancing shoes ready for the concerts.”

The organisers have promised unforgettable concerts, with top quality sound and lighting equipment and energetic live performances.
