MUHANGA-The Southern Provincial Executive Secretary, Jeanne Izabiriza, has urged youth in the area to be agents of change by living exemplary lifestyles.
"The values of the country are in the hands of the youth and it is upon the young generation to make good choices which will address future challenges,” she observed.
Izabiriza made the remarks while launching the Itorero- cultural forums for the 2011 high school graduates in Muhanga District, on Monday.
Izabiriza also toured the three sites where youth Itorero groups dubbed "Imbagukiramihigo” are gathered.
The three-week camp drew over 1,500 youth from 12 sectors. The training will focus on cultural values, fighting genocide ideology and promoting peace and unity, according to Mico Twagirayezu, the Nyabisindu camp leader.
Other topics to be covered include HIV/Aids prevention, promotion of a savings culture, environmental protection and the role of youth in attaining the country’s development goals.
"Educating the youth on these values is vital, so that they can be aware of the country’s vision and get involved in the development of the community,” Twagirayezu noted.
The students were optimistic of learning from each other’s experience and sharing ideas on some of the crosscutting issues affecting them.
