GATSIBO- Eighteen couples from the historically marginalised groups, on Monday, formalised their marriages at a mass wedding held at Kiziguro sector, Gatsibo District. Speaking at the occasion, the Sector Executive Secretary, Joseph Munyaburanga urged the newly weds to uphold family values.

Speaking at the occasion, the Sector Executive Secretary, Joseph Munyaburanga urged the newly weds to uphold family values.
"This is a milestone in your lives…you should keep family bonds and ensure a brighter future for your children,” Munyaburanga said.
"You very well know that our government works on four leadership pillars; good governance, justice for all, economy and social welfare. It is difficult to fully implement this among families that are not legally living together.”
Claudine Nyirandegeya, 43, who tied the knot with Gabriel Barinabo, 68, said with the new development, the future of their children was now brighter.
"We have been cohabiting for so long. After our wedding our children will feel a sense of belonging to us both,” said Barinabo.
Meanwhile, ten of the newly married couples received Frisian cows as part of the Girinka programme.
More than 82% of the couples in Kiziguro sector have formalised their marriages, according to local authorities.
