KIBUYE — Police in Kibuye are searching for a woman who might have dumped a baby about six months, whose body was found on Tuesday in Rwanvumba forest in Maryohe sector.
The body was discovered by primary school children looking for firewood; who at a distance saw something wrapped in clothes.
The children feared to critically examine the clothes but reported the matter to the head of settlement [Umudugudu] who mobilised other residents of Maryohe to remove the body.
"The body had been covered with grass to conceal it from being discovered,” said Batsinduka Gad, the Umudugudu leader. He said that such an incident had never happened in the area before, but suspected prostitutes to have dumped it.
"I wish the government could set a law prohibiting prostitutes to produce because such an incident is a result of unplanned pregnancy,” said a woman at the scene.
By afternoon many residents of Kibuye were flocking to Kibuye police station to look at the body. This is the second similar incident in the province in less than two months.
Recently in Boneza, Rutsiro district a teenage girl collaborated with her mother to strangle and dump her newly-born baby in a box. The culprit is currently being held at Gitarama police station though the mother was released.
