National carrier, RwandAir, is among 100 companies from East and Central Africa set to receive awards in this year’s Chief Information Officers (CIOs)

Under the theme "Innovation for business  value” the CIO 100 awards seek to celebrate organisations that have innovatively used information technology to deliver business value.

"We are nominated because of integrating IT in our services and operations,” Michael Otieno, RwandAir’s Marketing and Corporate Communication Manager told Business Times.

He added that: "Two years ago, we never had revenue accounting systems, e-commerce and fleet flyer programme all which ease our services and operations.”

The competition, is expected to attract over 600 participants across East and Central Africa, and will climax with an awards gala to be held in Nairobi, Kenya  from the November 29 to 30, 2011.

The new entrants surveyed this year increased to over 500 up from 350 in 2010. The 350 participants in 2010 were drawn from Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

During the two day symposia, participants will also discuss on creating a climate of innovation through business mobility, using IT to drive innovation and transforming competitive advantage with social media.

This is the only competition that awards excellence in the execution of IT projects and recognises the organisations and the people behind those projects.
