President Paul Kagame, alongside Presidents Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia and Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania are to be honoured by the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation for their exemplary leadership.

Others set to be honoured include former Heads of State Olusegun Obasanjo (Nigeria) and William J. Clinton and George W. Bush of the United States.

The Leon H. Sullivan Foundation is an American based institution that empowers underprivileged people worldwide by promoting the principles of self-help and social responsibility. 

Others to be recorgmised include former US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, Hilary Clinton, current US Secretary of State, South African President Jacob Zuma, former US Secretary of State Collin Powel, David O’reilly, Dr. Henry Louis Gates, John Prendergast, Mia Farrow and Dr. Edmund Daukoru.

According a statement, on Thursday, December 15, 2011, Sullivan Foundation will salute the 2011 Sullivan Honours Recipients in a star-studded, international affair with notable performers from the United States and across the African Continent.

The event will take place in Washington D.C.

"The honours recipients, recognised for lifetime contributions, are selected by the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation Honours Selection Committee, a subcommittee of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.  The primary criterion in the selection process is demonstrated excellence,” reads part of the statement.

The Leon H. Sullivan Foundation honoured President Kagame in 2006 thanking him for his exemplary leadership in moving Rwanda forward.

President Kagame has improved Rwanda through the promotion of education, health, infrastructure, transparency, reconciliation, debt relief, and increased foreign relations among others.

His good governance practices and positive economic policies have been an example of strong positive leadership for the world.
