A friend of mine who has three pre-teen daughters and one teenage son sent me an email asking me about decorating ideas for her children, because unfortunately her children have complained that their bedrooms had an ancient feel and they were not happy in them.

Well, anyone with children will attest that once they (children) put their feet down wanting something, you had better listen to them and listen very carefully.
The first thing that a parent should put in mind when decorating the rooms of children of this age is that, these are people who have discovered themselves and each has a different taste of their own. So the first thing to do when decorating their rooms is to incorporate the accessories that each child likes. For the girls, accessories like cute pink pillows, jewellery displays, decorative lamps and unique girly pieces can do the trick. For the boys, incorporating masculine things like balls, framed soccer jerseys, art pieces like masks can enhance the bedroom themes and overall appeal of these rooms.
Also lighting in these rooms should be chosen very well.

First and foremost when decorating these rooms many things should be considered; for example these rooms can also serve as a study room. Bright lights should be fixed in these rooms just in case the rooms will serve as study rooms. But if there is a study room in the house, the girls love their rooms in coloured lightings like red. The boys on the other hand are not as complicated, but a blue coloured lighting can interest them as well.

The bedroom closet is often a focal point when it comes to the bedrooms of pre-teen and teenage children. All too often, the closet space becomes cluttered because it makes a nice area to store things. You should consider incorporating closet organizers for both boys and the girls in order to optimize space and organization in this area.
Bedroom paint colours are another area in which teenagers typically have a lot to say when it comes to their personal living space. If you are looking to obtain some bedroom decorating ideas for girls, colour is very important. This is true whether you are purchasing accessories, paint for the walls, or even wallpaper or flooring. You should incorporate colours that your teen and preteen children enjoy. This will help them to feel as if their space is their own. Pink has always been the colour for the girls and blue for the boys even though colour schemes are changing by day.
Every pre-teen and teenager’s room must contain one or more mirrors. Full-length mirror on a closet
door or behind entry door will be very helpful when your children are trying on outfits. This is a wonderful and inexpensive idea that is highly beneficial when it comes to changing up the overall appearance of a room.

The windows on the hand should not be left behind, because they can prove to be beneficial when it comes to changing the appearance of a room. You can use beads and other items to place upon the windows for the girls, curtains or blinds can do for the boy’s room.
Playful details, bright colours and age-appropriate decor create the perfect place for your children to hang out with their friends, to study, and rest.
Remember when doing all this work, involve them as much as possible, children of this age have more ideas than we give credit for.

They will help you in reflecting their personalities in more ways than one, that will help them be at ease and happy in the comfort of their rooms when at home.
