African ministers in charge of transport are meeting in Luanda, Angola, to discuss the development of land, air and maritime transport across the continent.  

Dr. Alexis Nzahabwanimana, the Minister of State in charge of Transport, is representing the country.

The conference is organised by the AU Commission in partnership with the Angolan government.

"During the forum, ministers will deliberate on the development of transport corridors, facilitation of transit transport, harmonisation of road standards and inter-governmental agreement on the African highways network,” reads part of the statement.

They will also discuss how to improve road safety and the development of railway link in Africa.

The conference will also identify new challenges related to transport and recommend remedial measures among other issues.

Participants are drawn from the AU member states, regional economic communities, continental and intercontinental transport specialised organizations, as well as other key stakeholders.

The outcomes of the ministerial conference will be submitted to the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government for approval at its Ordinary session of January 2012.

The last such meeting was held in Algeria in April 2008.
