Toes in Kigali are tapping to a new beat as Goethe-Institut in Kigali, launches an entertainment programme that will feature a host of exciting activities every Tuesday.

Although only a handful of people attended the debut screening of the German film Emmas Glück (Emma’s bliss), there was a surprisingly positive reaction and those that did attend had a great time at Ishyo Arts Centre’s hall.

Emmas Glück, is a 2006, romantic tragic-comedy by Sven Taddicken. The film starts off with horrific scenes of a heroine, churlish, pig breeder Emma, slaughtering a pig single-handedly. We later see her getting special thrills from her motorcycle rides on her farm.

Elsewhere, Max, a car salesman, receives bad news that he is not going to live longer after he is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

He decides to escape from the city to spend his last days in Mexico. But his plan to die in Mexico fades as his truck flips and crashes into Emma’s farm... along with the cash he stole from his crooked boss.

Emma gets woken up by the huge noise and goes to see what is happening. She takes Max out of the car and burns the car down.

Finally, he falls in love with Emma, and the romance drives the fatal cancer completely out of his mind, but Max’s days are numbered.
