MUHANGA - Over 30 NGOs in Muhanga District are holding public exhibitions as a way of creating awareness about their activities.

The three-day Public Accountability Day and exhibition is underway in Gitarama Taxi Park and was officially opened by Jeanne Izabiriza, the Executive Secretary of the Southern Province.

The Mayor of Muhanga, Yvonne Mutakwasuku, highlighted that the district is determined to promote a culture of accountability to the public they serve.

The event which attracted both national and international NGOs, also convened local businesses, and cooperatives that operate in the district.

Izabiliza hailed the district and its development partners for organising Accountability Day.

"Other districts should learn from this example, so as to create a culture of working together and creating awareness of opportunities which can propel us to sustainable development” Izabiliza said.

Exhibitors and residents said that the exposition will enable residents to understand operations of various organisations and cooperatives, and increase awareness on services provided.

"There are many residents who are not informed of NGO operations, this is an opportunity for us to access vital information on services provided, and activities which can be helpful for social and economic transformation,” Gilbert Ndahayo, a resident, said.
