FERWAFA Academy right-back Michelle Rusheshangoga has earned a surprise call-up to Milutin Micho’s 24-man Amavubi squad for the upcoming Tusker Challenge Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The 17-year-old, who burst onto the scene during this year’s Caf U-17 African Championship as well as Fifa U-17 World Cup in Mexico, joins the likes of Andrew Buteera, Charles Tibingana and Emery Bayisenge, who were recently promoted to the U-20 side.

The other surprise call-up is Etincelles midfielder Soter Kayumba, who has been in terrific form for the Western Province side.

The team, which is camped at Hotel La Palisse, will have two days of training before heading to Tanzania on Wednesday for the two-week tournament.

Rwanda, who won the competition in 1999, open their campaign on Saturday against the defending champions Tanzania. Last year, Tanzania had the better of Amavubi after ejecting the latter in the quarter-finals (1-0). The team will then play Namibia on November 29 before wrapping up their group matches with a clash against Djibouti on December 2.
