Fight diabetes through exercises, population advised

Rwandans have been called upon to always exercise and carry out physical activities as one of the key measures in the prevention of diabetes. The call was made during training by medical officials from all districts, on management of diabetes, which was organized as part of activities to celebrate the World Diabetes Day.

Rwandans have been called upon to always exercise and carry out physical activities as one of the key measures in the prevention of diabetes.

The call was made during training by medical officials from all districts, on management of diabetes, which was organized as part of activities to celebrate the World Diabetes Day.

"In Rwanda, we have opted to spend not a day, but a week, to organize a series of activities in the fight against diabetes,” said Francois Gishoma, Chairman of the Rwandan Diabetes Association.

He explained that they will use the opportunity to meet and engage more people to avoid diabetes. He added that they have started testing diabetes in all hospitals free of charge.

Gishoma stated that physical inactivity and obesity are some of the leading causes of Diabetes.

The national event to mark the day will be held at Amahoro Stadium on Sunday.
