The newly appointed Governor of the Eastern Province, Odette Uwamariya, Tuesday promised to work tirelessly to enhance development in the province during the official handover ceremony at the provincial headquarters in Rwamagana.
"I was humbled by the appointment ...consequently I owe the people performance, which I will do. I commend the work done by my predecessors particularly the outgoing Governor, Aisa Kirabo Kakira. I will pick from where she left and do even more,” Uwamariya said.
Kirabo handed over the administrative instruments and congratulated her successor, promising to maintain close cooperation with the province.
"Out of sight doesn’t mean out of mind...I am a resident of Eastern Province and there is no doubt I will keep pushing for its development,” said Kirabo, who leaves the job to officially take up new duties as the deputy Executive Director of UN Habitat.
She noted that the province has enough potential that needs maximum exploitation for the good of the people.
"There is potential in this province. Investors are ready, and among other advantages; traders voluntarily pay taxes unlike others areas. I therefore wish my successor all the best,” the outgoing Governor said.
Uwamariya, who has been a senior official in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, expressed gratitude to Kirabo and her staff for the great work done towards the development of the province.
Rwamagana District Mayor Nehemie Uwimana, said they looked forward to working with the incoming provincial head.
"It is encouraging that both officials talk about serving people,” he said.
