MALAWI’s involvement in the Tusker Challenge Cup hangs in a balance, Times Sport has learnt.

Media reports in Malawi yesterday indicated that Malawi’s Football Federation (FAM) had pulled out of the event citing lack of funds.

FAM Chief Executive Officer Suzgo Nyirenda said that the federation cannot raise Rwf29.2m on short notice.

However, Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye has rubbished those reports insisting that the three-time champions have confirmed participation.

The tournament kicks off November 25 in Dar es Salaam.

Amavubi have a huge mountain to climb after being drawn in Group A alongside hosts and defending champions Tanzania, Ethiopia and Djibouti.

Group B pits eleven-time champions Uganda against Burundi, Zanzibar and Somalia. Sudan, Kenya, Malawi and Eritrea make up Group C.

Tanzania lifted last year’s title after a hard fought 1-0 victory over guest side Ivory Coast in the final.
