AMAVUBI sealed Group H’s final slot after yesterday’s commanding 3-1 victory over Eritrea at Amahoro Stadium.

It was a fantastic response after Friday’s dull first leg which ended in a 1-all draw in Asmara.

The wasps, who are rebuilding after a disappointing 2012 Nations Cup qualifying campaign, were too good for the Red Sea Boys much to the delight of screaming fans.

Amavubi captain Olivier Karekezi opened the flood gates after just three minutes before second half strikes from Jean Claude Iranzi and Bokota Labama put the tie beyond Eritrea’s reach. Abraham Tedros scored Eritrea’s consolation from a set-piece with two minutes to play.

The result handed Rwanda a 4-2 goal aggregates win.

Karekezi proved that he still has what it takes to play at the top level after converting from close range from Elias Uzamukunda a.k.a Baby’s cross.

In the second half, Amavubi’s new coach Milutin Sredojevic Micho introduced Jean Claude Iranzi in place of Baby and the move paid dividends when the APR midfielder dribbled past two defenders before doubling Rwanda’s lead.

Bokota then capped Amavubi’s impressive display 14 minutes from time.

In his post match comments, Eritrea’s coach Negash Teklit conceded that Rwanda had been the better side. "We gave our all but I think Rwanda were the better team.”

Despite the win, Micho knows that the journey to Brazil is just starting. The team is in for an even sterner test against Algeria, Mali and Benin.
