I wish to respond to a story which appeared in The New Times, November, 14, in which higher institutions of learning were urged to be wary of forged academic papers. Some of the said institutions have not done enough to vet academic transcripts of students before admission.

It is wrong to admit students before thorough vetting is done. Some of them studied outside the country hence, it is hard to tell whether they passed through accredited universities.

Students who join universities through surreptitiously can never be prolific enough in a job setting. Our economy needs well-educated manpower to attain the set developmental targets but this would easily be compromised if students underhandedly cheat their way through the academic ladder.  I urge the Ministry of Education in collaboration with Rwanda Education Board to look into this matter as a matter of urgency.
